About the Work

I began work on a string orchestra arrangement of Florence Price’s Suite of Dances, also known as 3 Little Negro Dances, whilst at university in 2021, where we started rehearsing it as part of a small chamber ensemble to celebrate the works of marginalised composers. I revisited the arrangement in 2025 and finalised it into the version you see now, which I hope will see more performance as the composer’s catalogue is now in the public domain.
