Since coming to university, he has composed an original score for an audio drama production of Euripides’ Iphigeneia in Tauris for chamber orchestra and singers, which was submitted for the Scottish Online Student Drama Festival. Matteo collaborated with budding mezzo-soprano Sophie Clarke as the orchestrator of her single ‘A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes’ from Disney’s Cinderella. In 2020 he took on the role of conductor for the university’s Brass Band, where he previously played as first Euphonium, and is currently in the process of establishing a chamber ensemble to champion the works of marginalised composers at the university. In 2021 Matteo became the conductor of the Royal Holloway Jane Holloway choir as well as Rehearsal Assistant for the university's Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he performed in the Royal Holloway Chorus and Orchestra’s performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 alongside the Mozart players at St John’s, Smith Square in 2020. He is currently studying singing with British soprano Elaine Pearce.

Matteo has had several opportunities as a Musical Director whilst at university, including a production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Princess Ida, a virtual production of Fame, and a virtual cabaret event that involved him creating various arrangements of musical theatre songs in addition to his role in teaching the cast.

Matteo is a capable guitarist, who has been playing for over 10 years, performing in several pit orchestras at university. He worked as an orchestrator and writer of additional music for Améliore, a new musical that premiered at Camden Fringe in August 2021. He was the Musical Director for the premier run and featured on Season 3 of In the Wings discussing his involvement with writer Melissa Boyce-Hurd.

Before coming to university, Matteo sang with the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Choir where he was one of the baritone soloists in their 2019 performance of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem at Blackburn Cathedral, singing the ‘Libera Me’ solo. During his final years at school, he performed several times at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with his school’s Choir, Orchestra, Concert Band, and Stage Band. In his last year, Matteo co-founded and sung in a 9-member, a cappella vocal ensemble who were able to sing as part of a mass at Cologne Cathedral.

Since 2020, Matteo has been the Coach for Conductor’s Collective, Royal Holloway’s student-led conducting society.

He has taken part in several conducting workshops and masterclasses, including by Mihhail Gerts, Peter Fender, Rupert Gough, Nathan James Dearden, and Rebecca Miller.
