About

Matteo is a young conductor, composer, orchestrator and arranger from Liverpool, who studied Music at Royal Holloway.

As a child, Matteo sang with the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Choir where he was one of the baritone soloists in their 2019 performance of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem at Blackburn Cathedral, singing the ‘Libera Me’ solo. He studied singing with British soprano Elaine Pearce.

At university, he composed an original score for an audio drama production of Euripides’ Iphigeneia in Tauris for chamber orchestra and singers, which was submitted for the Scottish Online Student Drama Festival. In 2020 he took on the role of conductor for the university’s Brass Band. In 2021 Matteo became the conductor of the Royal Holloway Jane Holloway choir as well as Rehearsal Assistant for the university's Symphony Orchestra. After leaving Royal Holloway, he returned to conduct a performance of Coleridge-Taylor's Hiawatha's Wedding Feast with the university Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.​
He worked as an orchestrator and writer of additional music for Améliore, a new musical that premiered at Camden Fringe in August 2021. He was the Musical Director for the premier run and featured on Season 3 of In the Wings discussing his involvement with writer Melissa Boyce-Hurd.​

Matteo is a frequent collaborator with budding mezzo-soprano Sophie Clarke, orchestrating several tracks for her albums and singles, including ‘A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes’ from Disney’s Cinderella, and several tracks from her album Then Sings My Soul.

In 2024, Matteo founded the Equilibrium Symphony Orchestra alongside other Royal Holloway alumni, where he is co-conductor. His composition Poseidon; Ruler of the Sea was premiered by the Equilibrium Symphony Orchestra in May 2025.
He has taken part in several conducting workshops and masterclasses, including by Mihhail Gerts, Peter Fender, Rupert Gough, Nathan James Dearden, and Rebecca Miller.
