About the Work

Florence Price was an African American composer and was the first Black woman to have a symphony performed by a major American orchestra. She has become synonymous with the Juba Dance - an African American folk dance - which Price included in all of her symphonic work. This arrangement for Concert Band captures the playful syncopation of the Juba Dance from Price's Symphony No. 1. There are several opportunities for soloists in the band to display their ability, and the arrangement is perfect for celebrating a beautiful piece of American classical music.
